Changelog

What's new in Ectobuilder, from the first version in April 2026 to today. The newest changes are at the top. Where a feature has a guide on the blog, its name links to it.

November 5, 2026

Site audit

  • More auto fixes: broken links become redirects to the page they most likely moved to (you review each one, and they go live with your next deploy); a missing sharing image is made from the first screen of your home page and set in Ghost; a page with no main heading gets one, and extra H1s become H2s.
  • Better AI descriptions: auto fix now reads each page as visitors see it, plus your site's own description, before writing a meta description or SEO title, and it no longer makes up features or prices.
  • New checks: links that still go to # or have nothing in them, a site description that's too short, a site icon under 512 px, and whether your site opens with and without www and from http:// (with a link to the redirect guide).
  • Show in editor: issues on a page open that page's design in the editor, and a placeholder link is selected and scrolled into view.
  • Pictures without alt text are reported whether automatic alt text is on or not.

SEO

  • No more jumping pages: every picture in your theme gets its width and height when you deploy, so the page keeps its space while pictures load.
  • Empty links are taken out when you deploy, and links still pointing at # are listed so you can give them an address.
  • Alt text for pictures already on your pages: Settings → SEO → Images shows how many have none, and Write it now describes them all.
  • The blog page gets your site's sharing image, so links to it show a picture.
  • Title level: make a section's title H1, H2, H3 or H4 from its Layout settings. The size stays the same.

Sections

  • The FAQ section's "Can't find what you're looking for?" line is one line for computers and phones, so an edit reaches both.

November 4, 2026

  • Favicons from your Ghost icon: every deploy adds a 96 px icon, an SVG icon, an Apple touch icon and a web app manifest, made from your Publication icon. Upload one 512 × 512 px or larger for sharp results.
  • Icon, logo and cover: upload, replace or remove your Ghost publication icon, logo and cover from Settings → Ghost settings (with a staff token). Drop a file on a row or pick one.

November 3, 2026

  • Button hover and focus: every button type changes color clearly on hover, shows an outline when reached with the keyboard, and Lift is stronger. A new Zoom hover is in Style → Buttons.
  • Words inside a button take the button's colors, so a Primary button never hides its own text.
  • A header link set to a button type gets your theme's button corners, size, weight, shadow and hover.
  • The Add section button stays on its line between sections while you scroll.

November 2, 2026

  • Menus: a link typed without https:// gets it added, and if Ghost refuses a menu, the message names the link and why.

October 29, 2026

New themes

  • New themes start from the Clarity Coach design, with the Blog: grid + sidebar layout for the blog page, and a Blog link is added to your Ghost menu on the first deploy.

Sections

  • Eyebrow icons: put an icon or a brand logo before the small line above a title.
  • Pictures in heroes have no frames or borders by design, and can blend into the background at the bottom or on every edge.
  • Background shape and Panel settings for sections with a colored box or a painted shape behind the content.
  • Replace suggests sections that do the same job first, and library search finds sections by what they show (video, two buttons, map…).
  • Rename sections in the Sections panel: double-click or press F2.

Settings

  • Integrations and Analytics work one way: a Connect button, one field that's checked before saving, and a menu to change, pause or disconnect.
  • With your Ghost content shown, the editor's header uses your real Ghost logo.

October 28, 2026

  • 13 new heroes in a category of their own: centered with a picture, split headline, newsletter sign-up, ratings, app download, portrait, photo collage, numbers, event, checklist and more.
  • The Add section button between sections is a clear pill, and the library opens on My sections when you have any.
  • The Logos tab gets filters (full color or greyscale, for light or dark backgrounds).
  • Linking a button sets the button's own link instead of putting a second link inside it.
  • Animated GIF and WebP pictures stay animated on your site.
  • Your AI assistant is faster, can change any section setting the editor offers, edit footer columns, run the site audit and speed test, and take pictures you drop on a page.
  • After upgrading, you come back to the page you were on.

October 27, 2026

  • Copy and paste elements: right-click or Ctrl/Cmd+C and V for any element, across pages and themes, with its styles.
  • Drag to reorder headings, text, buttons and cards with the grip on the selection bar.
  • More icons: Tabler, Heroicons, Iconoir and Phosphor duotone next to Lucide, for icons and buttons.
  • Buttons follow your theme everywhere: the same corners, size, weight and case in every section, and any icon or brand logo before or after the words (a Google Play button gets its logo by itself).
  • Settings about one thing show where you click it: card style on a card, photo tint on a photo, title alignment on the title.
  • Expandable features keep their height while panels open, with four timer line styles.
  • You and your AI assistant can edit the same theme at once.

October 26, 2026

  • Right-click menu in the editor.
  • Move and zoom pictures: drag a cropped picture into place, or pinch on the trackpad to zoom in.
  • Maps: OpenFreeMap styles (light, dark, brand tint, colorful) with zoom, labels and places, and a Form with map section.
  • Glow backgrounds: Aurora, Mesh, Dusk and Spotlight, with film grain.
  • Photo with card: card position, look (solid, glass, dark, brand), width and photo shade.
  • robots.txt editor in Settings → SEO.
  • A deploy sets Ghost's accent color to your brand color (with a staff token), and Ghost's sample About page takes your page design without a warning.
  • Sections with a column that stays in view get a switch for it.

October 25, 2026

Images

  • The Images panel: a new Images button in the left bar, and the window that opens when you replace a picture. Four tabs: Your images, Photos, Logos and Ghost.
  • Free photos: one search across Unsplash and Pexels, with shape and color filters in the wide view. Pick a photo to see it larger, use it, or save it to Your images.
  • Company logos: search any company by name or website and drop its logo in, for logo rows and "as seen in" strips. Logos come from Logo.dev.
  • Ghost pictures: use your Ghost logo, icon and cover anywhere in the theme.
  • Your images shows where each picture is used and asks before you delete one that's still on a page. AI writes the description of every picture you add.
  • The panel sits beside the page at the usual width, two pictures across. The expand button opens a wide view with filters and popular searches.

Sections

  • Expandable features: three animated layouts (two panels, three panels, cards) where each feature opens in turn with its picture, or when a visitor picks it. On phones they become an accordion.
  • Contact: three new layouts, with ways to reach you, ways to reach you beside a quote, and a form beside your details.

Working in the editor

  • Deploy progress: while a theme deploys, a panel under the Deploy button shows each step (saving, building, uploading to Ghost, updating pages, menu and redirects) and how long it took. Keep editing while it runs.
  • A new settings panel: every section's settings follow one order (its content, then Style, Layout, Motion and Advanced), changed groups are marked, and you can copy a section's style and paste it onto another.
  • The Style panel has new groups for Buttons, Cards, Images and logos, Sections and Motion. Page transitions are now under Motion.
  • Section backgrounds can have a soft glow or a photo, and titles can be aligned left or centered.
  • Blog search filter menus stay closed on the page while you edit, as visitors first see them.
  • Long option labels no longer get cut off in settings.

Plans

  • You can build and preview everything for free before you pay, so paid plans no longer come with a money-back guarantee. See the terms.

October 24, 2026

Site audit

  • Site audit: a new tab in Settings reads every public page of your Ghost site and lists what keeps it out of search: missing or too-long descriptions and titles, headings, pictures without alt text, broken links, sitemap errors, and empty tag and author details. Each issue is marked To fix or To improve, with a button that takes you where it's fixed.
  • Auto fix: AI writes meta descriptions, SEO titles, tag descriptions and your site description. Review, edit or untick each one, then apply, and they're saved to Ghost at once.
  • The SEO tab shows how many issues your last audit found, with a button to open it.
  • Menu changes go live with your deploy: there's no separate save button any more. Undo changes puts the menu back the way it is in Ghost.
  • Footer columns are remembered when you switch to one list and back, and an Add column button sits in the bar above a selected column.
  • Every footer in the section library now takes its links from your Ghost menu. A switch in the panel, Links come from: Ghost menu or As designed, keeps a footer's own links when you want them.

Dark mode

  • Dark mode looks right in more sections: brand-colored text stays readable, illustrations and app screenshots switch to dark versions, and dark bands, cards, dividers and form controls were fixed.

Sections

  • Center logos in logo clouds, whatever the number of columns.

Publishing

  • A deploy skips the redirects step when your theme has no redirects of its own, so you no longer see a warning about Ghost's redirects file.

Automation

  • Public API (beta): deploy themes, create and publish Ghost posts, add menu links, and fetch new deploys, waitlist signups and missing pages, with the same token as the AI connector (Account → AI connector). The reference is at editor.ectobuilder.com/api/v1/openapi.json. Apps for Zapier and Make are on the way.
  • Your AI assistant can take screenshots of your pages at twice the resolution, for blog posts and docs.

Theme guides

October 23, 2026

  • Menu panel: edit your Ghost menu right beside the page. Add, rename and reorder links, pick pages, posts and tags from your site, and drag a link to the right to put it in a dropdown. A link can also just open its dropdown. Changes save straight to Ghost.
  • Menu icons: give any menu link an icon, shown with its label or on its own, in three sizes.
  • Footer columns: footers with columns of links now take them from your Ghost footer menu. Put links under a heading and each heading becomes a column.
  • Menu spacing: tight, normal or wide.
  • Phone menus on every header: each header has a menu button that opens your full menu on phones.
  • Dropdowns and mega menus in masthead headers no longer get cut off.
  • A header per template: give a custom template its own header while the rest of the site keeps the shared one.

Ghost settings in Ectobuilder

  • Ghost staff token: add one under Settings → Integrations to change Ghost's own settings from Ectobuilder. It's optional.
  • Announcement bar: write the message, add a link, pick the color and who sees it. It's live on your site at once.
  • Change your site title, description, accent color, social accounts and Ghost's code injection from Settings.

Security

  • Your Ghost keys are encrypted: Admin API keys and staff tokens are stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) on our server and never sent back to your browser. Keys saved before today were moved over.

Sections and text

  • Add below: put a text, subtitle, heading, button or icon under any element in a section.
  • Add plan, Add question, Add logo and the like now sit in the small bar above whatever you select, so adding a card, a plan or a stat is one click.
  • Text width: make a heading or paragraph narrower or wider (S to Full). In a hero, the heading and its intro resize together.
  • Content width now visibly changes every section: Narrow is a step narrower, Wide goes past the page width, Full runs edge to edge.
  • Logo links: each logo in a logo cloud can link to a page, in the same tab or a new one.
  • Showcase sections: cards and color panels for your work. A card can show a full-page screenshot of a website, which scrolls as visitors point at it.
  • Tabs: four looks (pills, underline, accent, outline), tabs that open one after another by themselves, and adding or removing tabs.
  • Gradient backgrounds run once across the whole section, and text color follows the background so it stays readable.
  • Every section was checked on a phone, with fixes for overflowing, cramped and cut-off layouts. Photo and logo strips that don't move can be swiped.

Blog, tag and author pages

  • New author headers (profile and centered) and tag headers (with picture and centered).
  • Author details: location, website, X, Facebook, cover photo and post count.
  • Author pages can have their own design, starting from a copy of the Blog design, while tag pages keep the Blog design.
  • Shows on: show a section on every archive page, or only on the blog, tag pages or author pages.
  • More posts: page links, a Load more button, or loading the next posts as readers scroll.
  • Posts without a picture keep their place in post lists, with a block in their tag's color, so grids stay even.

Posts and reading

  • Post sidebars: two new post sections with a sidebar on the right or the left. Start with recent posts, your topics and a subscribe box, then add share links, the table of contents, a note, a button or your site's name and description. The sidebar can stay in view as readers scroll, and sits below the post or hides on phones.
  • Table of contents on phones and tablets: hide it, fold it behind an "On this page" bar, or show it open.
  • Add to the contents column: share links, a subscribe box, a button, or your site's name and description. They scroll with the list.
  • A long table of contents beside the post scrolls on its own and keeps the heading you're reading in view.

Working in the editor

  • Scrolling no longer stops when the mouse passes over the section bar or the + between sections.
  • Motion, Behavior and Reuse settings start folded, so the panel is shorter. Open them once and they stay open.
  • Settings on the element you click: a post card, a menu link, a logo, a tab or a form field now shows the settings for its part (post list, menu, logos and so on), not only its section. A grid shows its columns, and text in post cards gets size controls for every card.
  • The breadcrumb, Layers and the settings panel name parts plainly: Post list, Post card, Menu, Tab, Plan.
  • The page menu groups Ghost pages and custom templates and shows each one's address.
  • Theme structure in Settings → General lists every template and file, and warns when routes.yaml isn't uploaded to Ghost.
  • Sample content (Pro): fill your Ghost site with sample posts and tags to judge every page, then remove them in one click. Nobody is emailed.
  • The 404 page is now called Not found (404).

AI assistant

  • Your assistant can open and edit any page or post by its address.
  • It can also read and change your Ghost menu, with icons and dropdowns, and your site settings and announcement bar, with the same staff token.
  • Small edits to a post no longer resend the whole post.

October 22, 2026

Working in the editor

  • This page: custom templates get a panel with the page's description (written by AI in one click if you like) and a link to the live page.
  • Settings shows how many pages are still missing a description.
  • Logos: spacing between logos, a size for each logo, and a Logo panel.
  • Guides and a Contact form in the account menu.
  • The logo in the top bar takes you back to the dashboard straight away.

Publishing

  • Connect your Ghost site from Settings, without a popup.
  • Settings shows a deploy bar when your changes aren't live yet.
  • Large themes deploy without hitting a size limit.
  • If the editor is open in an old tab, a deploy asks you to reload it.

October 21, 2026

Waitlists

  • Four waitlist sections: a hero, a card, a split layout and a slim bar. They're in the library under Waitlist.
  • Signups join your Ghost site as members with a label of your choice, so you can email them from Ghost later.
  • Optional extras: a live count of people waiting, each person's place in line, and invite links that move people up the list when friends join.
  • See your signups in the editor and download them as a CSV file.
  • When you launch, flip the Launched switch and the form becomes a button to your product.
  • Full-text search from the header. Add a Search button to your header that opens a search window. Visitors can also open it with Ctrl+K or the / key.
  • Search sections can now search inside posts, not just titles, and show the matching sentence with the words highlighted.

Code blocks

  • Colors: code in your posts is colored by language, in your theme's own colors.
  • Language bar and Copy button: each block shows its language and copies in one click.
  • Dark, light or matching the page, plus optional line numbers and wrapping for long lines.
  • In dark mode, code blocks are a step lighter than the page, so they keep their shape.

Sections and layout

  • Section height: small, medium, large or full screen, with the content placed at the top, middle or bottom.
  • Custom spacing: set the space above and below any section in pixels.
  • Section backgrounds: a color, a gradient or a background video.
  • Phone-only settings: separate spacing, columns and text size for phones.
  • Headings: change a heading's level (H1–H4) and its size.
  • Buttons: edit a row of buttons in one place: labels, links and styles.
  • Fill the screen for custom code: the section is exactly as tall as the screen below the header.
  • Custom page width, and saved color palettes to reuse across themes.
  • Header settings: logo size, header height (slim, normal or tall), menu text size, a search button, a light/dark switch, and Sign in and Subscribe buttons.

Working in the editor

  • Layers: see the page as a list of sections and the elements inside them, with a breadcrumb to step back out.
  • Copy and paste sections between pages and between themes.
  • My sections: save a section you like and reuse it in any theme. Saved sections stay with your account.
  • Version history: a version is saved on every deploy and once a day, and you can save one yourself at any time. Restore any of them.
  • Light/dark preview from the top bar.
  • Undo after deleting a section, a keyboard shortcuts sheet (press ?), and settings groups you can fold away.
  • Separate Text color and Highlight buttons in the text toolbar.
  • Settings → Features is now organized into sections: Look and feel, Pictures and tags, Reading, and Code blocks.
  • Favorites now use a heart icon, and My sections an archive box.

Forms, fonts and code

  • Form builder: add, remove and reorder fields; choose each field's type, whether it's required, and its placeholder or options. After sending, show a thank-you message or go to another page.
  • Upload your own fonts and use them anywhere in your theme.
  • Custom CSS, plus your own code at the end of the head and the page.
  • Page transitions: a fade or slide between pages, in browsers that support it.

Language

  • Translate your theme: change every word your theme shows visitors (search, sharing, comments, the picture viewer, code blocks, reading time).
  • One-click translation: pick one of 40 languages and every word is filled in for you. You can still edit each one.
  • Right-to-left layouts for Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Urdu.

Publishing

  • If more than one of your themes is connected to the same Ghost site, Ectobuilder tells you when you connect, and asks before a deploy replaces the theme that's live.
  • The dashboard shows which theme is live and where.
  • Clearer messages when your site's host refuses a theme upload.
  • The Analytics settings notice when you remove a tracking code from Ghost's code injection.

AI assistant

  • Your assistant can now create a page and publish it in one step, and edit and publish pages as well as posts.

Account

  • Change password and Delete account now work from Account settings. The dashboard's account window now matches the editor's.
  • Password reset links take you straight to the new-password form.
  • Redesigned account emails (sign-up, password reset, email change).
  • A cleaner loading screen.
  • The interface now uses US English spelling throughout.

October 19, 2026

  • Tabs that follow the scroll: a tabs section stays in place while the reader scrolls and opens its tabs one by one.
  • New feature and magazine layouts.

October 14, 2026

  • Reading progress bar at the top of articles, in a thin or normal style.
  • Fill the screen for heroes: the section is exactly as tall as the screen below the header.
  • Page text for AI search: the words of your custom pages are added to Ghost's llms.txt.
  • AI alt text: describe pictures for screen readers and search engines in one click.
  • Link a pricing plan to one of your Ghost tiers: its prices are filled in from Ghost and its button opens Ghost's signup for that tier.
  • A newsletter opt-in for Ectobuilder updates, at sign-up and in Account settings.
  • Your account lives at the bottom of the editor's left rail, with its own settings window.
  • The editor shows whether your theme has changed since its last deploy.

October 13, 2026

  • Light/dark switch for visitors, in the header, the footer or both, with a dark palette tinted by your accent color.
  • Share buttons for X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky, Reddit and more.
  • Lightbox: click a picture to see it full size and swipe through the rest.
  • Speed test: Core Web Vitals for your site from Google, with the few fixes worth doing in plain words.
  • Faster themes: responsive WebP images, the first big picture loads first, the rest load as they come into view, fonts don't hold up the page, and comments load as readers reach them.
  • Your uploaded pictures now travel with the theme, so your site doesn't depend on Ectobuilder to show them.

October 12, 2026

  • Cookie consent banner, with Google Consent Mode v2, and tracking tools that wait for consent.
  • Comments from Ghost or a third-party provider, in one design.
  • Missing pages: your 404 page reports addresses that don't exist, including ones AI assistants made up, so you can redirect them.
  • Rich results for search engines: breadcrumbs on posts, pages and tag pages, and FAQs from toggle cards in your posts.

October 11, 2026

  • Blog, tag and author pages share one design, chosen from ready-made layouts, so the layout never jumps between them.
  • Search and filter sections built in, following your theme's design.
  • Redirects managed in the editor, ready to upload to Ghost.
  • Tag colors and tag icons: paint tags in the colors set in Ghost, or show a tag as an icon on the post's picture.

October 7–10, 2026

  • A new editor (October 7): click any text or picture on the page to change it, with a library of over 250 ready-made sections, each with a real screenshot. Your brand color, fonts, corners, spacing and dark mode apply to every section at once.
  • The new editor is the default. Every new theme is built in it. Themes made in the old builder still open there.
  • Connect your AI assistant (October 8): Ectobuilder's MCP server lets an assistant like Claude build and edit your themes, deploy them, and write and publish posts on your Ghost site.
  • Pages for your custom templates are created and published in Ghost when you deploy (October 8).
  • Booking links (Calendly, Cal.com and others) that every "Book a time" button opens (October 9).
  • New pricing: Free to build and preview, Pro and Studio yearly plans to publish (October 10).

September 2026

  • Unlimited pages on the Free plan: build as many custom pages as you like in a theme; the free limit is one saved theme.
  • Fixed homepages that showed a 404 on some sites while the blog worked.

August 2026

  • Clearer settings: long option labels no longer get cut off, and choices with long names show as a list instead of a squeezed slider.
  • Comparison tables get an optional badge on your column, such as "Best choice".
  • Windows and dialogs in the builder were tidied up so they open and close consistently.

July 2026

  • 20 new sections (early July): announcement bar, awards and badges, before and after, booking, careers, changelog, comparison table, contact details, FAQ beside a heading, feature tabs, footer with columns, hero with social proof, how it works, integrations, menu, metrics, testimonial cards and a timeline.
  • Edit on the page (mid-July): click a section to change its settings in a small panel right next to it, so the page gets the full width of the screen.
  • Post feeds can show posts from several tags at once.
  • Clearer section icons in the library, and on/off switches instead of checkboxes.

June 2026

Sections

  • 75 new sections: heroes, calls to action, features, pricing tables, galleries, testimonials, team, stats, steps, FAQ, maps, video, error pages and more.
  • Post pages: post headers, a table of contents, a reading progress bar, share links, comments, an author bio, and related and recommended posts.
  • Blog, tag and author pages you design yourself, with your real posts, page links and a tag filter bar.

Working in the builder

  • Your real posts in the preview: connect Ghost and the builder shows your own posts instead of samples.
  • Picture library: upload your own pictures or pick free photos from Unsplash.
  • Dashboard with a card for each theme, live thumbnails, favorites, sorting and search.
  • Templates gallery: start a new theme from a ready-made design.
  • Ectobuilder AI (late June): describe your business in a chat and get a complete theme, with your prices read from a picture if you have one.
  • A short preview link for each theme, and a one-click Deploy button that opens your live site.

Account and plans

  • Sign in with Google or email, with branded account emails.
  • Pro plan (late June): publish without the Ectobuilder badge, and manage your subscription from Account settings.
  • Each theme keeps its own Ghost connection, so you can work on several sites.
  • The app was renamed to Ectobuilder, with a new logo.

May 2026

  • The visual builder: pick sections from a library, reorder them by dragging, and change their words, pictures and settings in a side panel.
  • Theme design settings: brand colors, fonts, spacing, corner shapes and shadows, applied to every section.
  • Ghost settings without code: choose which settings your theme shows in Ghost Admin, so you can change them later without opening the builder.
  • Connect Ghost and deploy: send the finished theme straight to your Ghost site.
  • Free photos from Unsplash.
  • A chat assistant that builds and changes your theme from plain-language requests.
  • Every theme is checked against Ghost's own theme validator before you get it.

April 2026

  • The first version: a setup wizard that asks what your site is for, then builds a Ghost theme with AI.
  • Around 25 section types to start with, from heroes, pricing and testimonials to galleries, maps, video, events, podcast episodes and membership tiers.
  • A gallery of starting points, and saving and reopening your themes.
  • Download your theme as a ZIP file or deploy it to Ghost.
