The **Dentist** theme is an Ectobuilder theme for family, general and cosmetic dental practices running their site on Ghost. Its homepage opens with a photo of the practice and a card with a *Book a visit* button, then shows three trust numbers, your treatments and prices in tabs, a first-visit walkthrough that plays by itself, the team, patient reviews, an FAQ about insurance and nerves, and a map with your opening hours.

This guide walks through what most practices set up first:

- [Set out your treatments and prices](#part-1-set-out-your-treatments-and-prices), in tabs patients can scan.
- [Take bookings and show the first visit](#part-2-take-bookings-and-show-the-first-visit), step by step.
- [Introduce your team and share reviews](#part-3-introduce-your-team-and-share-reviews), with your own numbers.
- [Answer questions about insurance and nerves](#part-4-answer-questions-about-insurance-and-nerves) before patients call.
- [Add your address, hours and map](#part-5-add-your-address-hours-and-map).
- [Set up your menu](#part-6-set-up-your-menu) in the Menu panel.
- [Check your SEO with Site audit](#part-7-check-your-seo-with-site-audit) before you launch.

To follow along, open the theme from the [Ectobuilder theme gallery](https://www.ectobuilder.com/themes/) and connect your Ghost site under Settings → Integrations → Ghost Admin API.

The homepage hero: a photo of the practice, a short promise and a Book a visit button.

## Part 1: Set out your treatments and prices

Patients want to know what a visit costs before they book. The **Treatments & prices** section shows that in three tabs: *General*, *Cosmetic* and *Kids & family*. Each treatment has a name, a price and one line about what is included and how long it takes, like *Check-up & cleaning, $145: exam, gentle cleaning, polish and digital X-rays, 60 min*.

![Treatments and prices section with General, Cosmetic and Kids and family tabs; the General tab lists Check-up and cleaning for $145, White fillings from $180 and Emergency visit for $95](https://www.ectobuilder.com/content/images/2026/10/image-mvmuhicz.webp)

Treatments & prices: one tab per group, with a price and a short line for each treatment.

### Step 1: Change the treatments

1. Click a tab to open it, then double-click a treatment name, price or description to type over it.
2. To add a treatment, click an existing one and use **Items** in the panel on the right to duplicate it. The arrows move it up or down, and the cross removes it.
3. Write prices the way you quote them: *$145*, *from $180*, *Free* or *$45 a tooth* all fit.

### Step 2: Rename or add tabs

Double-click a tab label to rename it, for example *Orthodontics* instead of *Cosmetic*. With the section selected, the **Tabs** setting in the panel adds a tab (a copy of the last one, ready to edit) or removes the last one. **Look** changes the style of the tab buttons.

The line under the list, *No insurance? Our $29 a month membership…*, is for your own plan or payment options.

## Part 2: Take bookings and show the first visit

The theme has *Book a visit* buttons in the header, on the hero card and under every step of the first-visit section. They all link to `#booking`, so one setting connects them all.

### Step 1: Add your booking page

Use the booking tool your practice already has. Many practice systems include one; Calendly, Cal.com or Acuity also work. Copy the address of your booking page, then open **Settings → Integrations → Booking page** in Ectobuilder and paste it.

![Ectobuilder Settings, Integrations, Booking page address field](https://www.ectobuilder.com/content/images/2026/10/image-mvmrzyys.webp)

Settings → Integrations → Booking page.

To point any other button at it, set its link to `#booking`. Click **Deploy** and try the button on your phone. For bookings straight from Google Search and Maps as well, read [How to add online booking to your Ghost site](https://www.ectobuilder.com/blog/add-booking-to-ghost-site/).

### Step 2: Walk nervous patients through the first visit

The **Your first visit** section answers the question many new patients won't ask out loud: what happens when I get there? It has four steps, *A calm welcome*, *A gentle check-up*, *A plan you can see* and *Leave smiling*, each with its own photo. A line under the open step fills up, and the next step opens by itself.

![The Your first visit section: four steps on the left, A calm welcome open with a progress line under it, and a photo of a bright waiting room on the right with a Book a visit button](https://www.ectobuilder.com/content/images/2026/10/image-mvmuhk6q.webp)

Your first visit: each step opens in turn, with its own photo.

1. Double-click a step title or description to rewrite it in your own words.
2. Click the photo, then **Replace** in the **Image** panel to upload a picture of your own waiting room or treatment room.
3. With the section selected, **Open by themselves** sets how many seconds each step stays open, or turns it **Off**. It waits while a visitor points at it and stops once they pick a step.

## Part 3: Introduce your team and share reviews

Right under the hero, three numbers give a quick reason to trust you: *18 yrs* caring for Pasadena smiles, *4.9 / 5* from 1,200 Google reviews and *Same day* emergency visits. Double-click each one to put in your own. Use numbers you can stand behind, such as your real Google rating and review count.

![Three trust numbers in a white card: 18 yrs caring for Pasadena smiles, 4.9 out of 5 from 1,200 Google reviews, and Same day emergency visits every weekday](https://www.ectobuilder.com/content/images/2026/10/image-mvmuhfkq.webp)

Three trust numbers under the hero.

The **Friendly faces, steady hands** section shows your dentists and hygienists, each with a photo, a name and one line about what they do, like *Implants & crowns* or *Kids & orthodontics*.

![Team section titled Friendly faces, steady hands with four portraits: Dr. Amy Lin, dentist and founder; Dr. Marcus Reyes, implants and crowns; Dr. Sara Patel, kids and orthodontics; Daniel Ortiz, dental hygienist](https://www.ectobuilder.com/content/images/2026/10/image-mvmuhlje.webp)

The team: a photo, a name and a role for each person.

1. Click each photo and **Replace** it with a real portrait.
2. Fill in each photo's **Description**, for example *Dr. Amy Lin, dentist*, so screen readers and image search know who it is.
3. Use **Items** to add or remove people.

The reviews section, **Patients who used to dread the dentist**, is a slider of quotes with the patient's name and the treatment they had. Visitors move through it with the arrows. Replace the samples with real reviews, with permission, from Google or your own feedback forms.

![Review slider titled Patients who used to dread the dentist, with three quote cards from Ryan Kim, Marta Bell and Ana Morales and arrow buttons](https://www.ectobuilder.com/content/images/2026/10/image-mvmuhmqy.webp)

Patient reviews in a slider, each with a name and the treatment.

## Part 4: Answer questions about insurance and nerves

The **Good to know** section is a list of questions that open when clicked. The samples cover what practices hear most: *Do you take my insurance?*, *I'm nervous about the dentist. Can you help?*, *What if I don't have insurance?*, *Do you see children?* and *What happens in an emergency?*

![FAQ section titled Good to know with five questions; the first, Do you take my insurance, is open and lists the insurance networks the practice is in](https://www.ectobuilder.com/content/images/2026/10/image-mvmuhns3.webp)

Good to know: five questions, each opens with a click.

1. Double-click a question or answer to edit it. Keep the answers about your practice: which insurance networks you are in, what you offer nervous patients, how emergency slots work.
2. Use **Items** to add a question, for example about parking, payment plans or languages your team speaks.
3. The line at the bottom links *front desk* to a phone number. Select it and change the link to your own number, written like `tel:+16265550164`.

Check every name in the insurance answer before you go live. A patient who books because they saw their insurer listed will call if it is wrong.

## Part 5: Add your address, hours and map

The **Visit the practice** section puts your address, opening hours, phone and email next to a map. The line under the heading is for what helps on the day, like *Free parking behind the building, and a step-free entrance on Lake Avenue.*

![Visit the practice section: address, opening hours, phone and email on the left, and a Google map of Pasadena with an Open in Maps button on the right](https://www.ectobuilder.com/content/images/2026/10/image-mvmuhov5.webp)

Visit the practice: the details on the left, the map on the right.

1. Click the map. Under **Map** in the panel, type your practice's address in **Address**. Anything Google Maps can find works, including your practice's name.
2. Double-click the address, hours, phone and email to type yours. Select the phone number and email and update their links too, so they call and email the right place.
3. Keep the hours the same as on your Google Business profile.

## Part 6: Set up your menu

The header links to *Treatments*, *Our team*, *Smile notes* (your blog) and *Visit*, with *Book a visit* as a button. These links live in Ghost, and you edit them in the **Menu** panel in Ectobuilder, right next to your page. Click **Menu** in the left rail.

![The Ectobuilder editor with the Menu panel open: links with icons, one inside a dropdown, and the page header showing the same links](https://www.ectobuilder.com/content/images/2026/10/image-mvms0fmw.webp)

The Menu panel beside the page. The header shows each change as you make it.

- **Add, rename and reorder** links. Drag a link slightly to the right to put it in a dropdown, for example *Invisalign* and *Whitening* under *Treatments*.
- **Give links icons**, like a phone next to *Call us*.
- Switch to the **Footer menu** and set **Layout** to **Columns** for footer columns such as *Practice*, *Patients* and *Legal*.

The page shows each change as you make it, and your changes go to Ghost when you click **Deploy**. There is no separate save. The Menu panel needs a Ghost staff token once, under Settings → Integrations. The [menu editor guide](https://www.ectobuilder.com/blog/edit-ghost-menu/) covers every option.

The *Our team* link and the *Meet Dr. Lin* button point to `/about/`. Create an About page in Ghost Admin with that address, or point them at the team section instead.

## Part 7: Check your SEO with Site audit

People look for a dentist by searching, often on a phone and often with "near me". Before you launch, and again after you change the site, open **Settings → Site audit** and click **Run audit**. It reads every public page of your Ghost site and sorts what it finds into **To fix** and **To improve**.

![Ectobuilder Settings, Site audit results: counts for To fix, To improve and Passed, an Auto fix button and a list of issues](https://www.ectobuilder.com/content/images/2026/10/image-mvmsfvay.webp)

Site audit results, with Auto fix next to each issue. Example data.

For a practice, look out for these:

- **Site description.** The short text Google and social networks show for your site. Say what you do and where: *Family and cosmetic dentist in Pasadena.*
- **Sharing image.** The picture shown when someone shares your site in a message. A photo of your practice works well.
- **Page and post descriptions** for your About page and your *Smile notes* posts.
- **Broken links**, common after moving from an old site. The audit lists each missing address; send it to the right page under **Settings → Redirects**.

**Auto fix** writes meta descriptions, titles and tag descriptions for you. You see every suggestion first, can edit or untick any of them, and nothing is saved until you click **Apply**. Read more in the [Site audit guide](https://www.ectobuilder.com/blog/ghost-seo-audit/).

## Next steps

- Change the colors and fonts under **Style**. They apply to every page at once, and you can [use your own font](https://www.ectobuilder.com/blog/ghost-custom-fonts/) if your practice has one.
- The footer asks visitors to *Get smile notes*. Each address becomes a member of your Ghost site, so you can send a monthly letter with tips and practice news from Ghost Admin.
- Use the blog (*Smile notes* in the menu) for practice news, new team members and answers to questions patients ask at the chair. Leave clinical advice to appointments.
